We are just days away from the new refurbished BC Place opening. The buzz has started and the city of Vancouver is on the verge of announcing a new name for BC Place. The hottest rumors are either Telus Park or Telus Place. To me, I prefer Telus Place which means it will most likely be called Telus Park. I can see them trying to refresh the name completely and have “Place” in the name might be just to familiar. From a branding perspective, Telus would be smart to keep the “Place” in the name. However, look across the street at GM Place. That’s now Rogers Arena. By the same logic, Telus Park will be the new name for BC Place. Whatever the case, get your opinion heard. On a different point, with the long history of BC Place, having Telus Place makes more sense in that it’s more gentle of a change for the public. A radical departure from BC Place might cause the public to voice displeasure. If you think about it, BC Place has a long long history in Vancouver and people won’t be happy with a new name regardless of what it is. Just watch. Complaints are only a couple days away!
