I’ve done a bit of travelling over the years. Heading to France about ten years ago, I was aware that dogs are a big part of their society. I’ve also been warned to watch where I’m stepping when visiting any towns or cities in France. I was accurate with my footsteps the time I was there. However my friend wasn’t so lucky during the last week of our stay.
I bring this up because of what I’m seeing in Vancouvers West End. Dog crap on the sidewalks. Usually it’s not just in one spot. Usually it spreads. I don’t need to explain as you can most likely figure out what that means. I wouldn’t be bringing this up if it was a once in a while event. No. It’s every time I’m out walking. I can’t think of any time when I can walk without looking. I virtually always see a dump of parts of a doo doo. It means you will step in a turd if you are not watching constantly. That’s when it becomes a real hassle.
What to do? Apparently nothing. We can’t pay for many city services as it is. You think they are going to hire enforcement or have a dog doo doo hotline to call? People are smart enough about this. If their dog does a drop then oh well. Even if you pick up a turd from the side walk I’m sure there is enough residual that a person stepping on that spot would be taking the smell of S into a business or into their home.
So do you have so doggy doo doo stories from the sidewalks of Vancouver?
